If you get to see the two of us working together you'll see based on our personalities and creative collaboration why it was east to come up with our name. While we both have different personal styles we don't identify with one particular style as Unhinged. Our goal is to bring the vision and needs of our clients to life no matter what it takes! We know colors, textures, fabrics, and finishes and it's our job to help our clients choose what gives them "all the feels!" Design is our way of life and it's our job to make it accessible to anyone who wants it!
Natalie showed talent and interest in art and design from a very young age. With her mother being an artist and school art teacher, there were always various creative projects going on around the house. Natalie's interest in interior design sparked by spending hours designing and decorating her Barbie houses.
It wasn't until her early twenties that she decided to give the furniture business a try by working in a high end consignment store. Soon after Natalie was buying vintage furniture at sales and auctions all over the city and refurbishing them for profit. Nat Cal Vintage Gal was her Instagram name and it slowly grew into her side gig along with selling vintage furniture and decor out of a local vintage store.
In 2017, Natalie decided to take a break from refurbishing and took a job as a Visual Coordinator at a local high end furniture store. Natalie was given full creative reign of two 20,000 square foot warehouse showrooms, creating and designing rooms and spaces from the ground up.
In July of 2018 Katie took a job at the same furniture warehouse and the two quickly made a bond that they knew would eventually take them outside the showroom walls.
At the end of 2019 Unhinged Design Co. was born and we've been living the dream ever since!
Katie has always had a passion and interest in the interior design world. While pursuing her teaching degree at the University of Mississippi, Katie was constantly inspired by the historical architecture, furniture and decor of the South. When she returned to Ohio in 2015 and was teaching full-time, she was always finding ways to help design for family and friends.
In 2017 she decided to turn her side gig into her career when she left teaching to enroll in Interior Design School. With her new knowledge and experience she was able to get a few major independent interior design projects under her belt that really motivated her to want to learn more about furniture and decor.
In 2018 Katie took a sales job at a high end furniture warehouse where she could learn the ins and outs of furniture, upholstery and case goods. That is where she met Natalie and the two enjoyed collaborating on projects together. Katie was finding great success in furniture sales by helping customers design from the store but it was quickly becoming clear that she wanted to be able to help people from inside their spaces. At the end of 2019 she and Natalie decided to start an interior design business together and Unhinged Design Co.
